While the first West Virginia University football game of the year ushers in an exciting season, it also signals the transition from summer’s warmth to fall’s brisk brilliance.

Still enjoying the sun and fashion, many students remain in summer shorts and flip-flops. But when the weather changes, so will the style.

Park & Madison, a local fashion boutique owned by WVU graduates Shannon Coombs and Brittany Palumbo, has been ahead of fall fashion since they began buying it from Las Vegas in March.

Trends they see in the fall fashion forecast were short boots, statement jewelry, skinny or straight jeans and fringe details.

Park & Madison made national headlines this summer, when it was featured as one of the top 50 boutiques in the U.S., according to Elle magazine.

In addition to gracing the pages of fashion magazines, many items from Park & Madison have been seen on ABC’s "The Bachelorette," courtesy of Morgantown, native Emily Maynard.

Maynard was recently photographed leaving Los Angeles International Airport with fiance Jef Holm wearing a Donni Charm scarf with fringe detail from Park & Madison.

"It’s best to just stick to one piece of fringe per ensemble," Coombs said. "There is such a thing as too much fringe."

Another trend that is big this year is short boots, which vary from military-style to dressy.

"I think the short boots would look cute with a knee-length skirt and also with skinny pants," Coombs said. "But I do not recommend wearing them with flared pants. They might look fine standing up, but when you sit down, it will not look right."

Accessories are always a big part of any outfit for the fall season, and scarves are going to be bigger than ever this year.

You can incorporate two trends into one outfit by adding a scarf with fringe detail to your outfit.

Along with scarves, statement jewelry is a big part of making your outfit stand out.

Big earrings, collar-style necklaces, large pendant bracelets and stacked bracelets are some of the statement pieces shoppers will see this upcoming fall season.

"I love statement jewelry – it can turn an everyday outfit into a killer outfit," Palumbo said. "But don’t overdo it. One big piece is more than enough."

So whether you want to give short boots, skinny jeans or fringe detail a chance this fall, there is a trend this season to fit every style.
