Never Shout Never's latest album "What is Love?" is full of the band's signature cutesy qualities but also offers some in-your-face lyrics.
The song "Love is Our Weapon" is almost propaganda, saying love is the solution to all the world's problems by using the lead singer's shrill high voice.
"Jane Doe" describes a girl who the singer has fallen in love with, but he has no clue who she is and wants to get to know her better.
This song also adds a touch of accordion to the album.
The cute theme is extended in the next song "Can't Stand It" when he calls the girl he likes "super-duper cute."
Listeners might think "I love you 5" is about polygamy, but lead singer, Christofer Drew Ingle, instead says it's on how much he loves another girl even though she's with a guy who's not him.
"California" is the token song on every album about going to California.
"What is Love?" breaks from other songs on the album and uses just an acoustic guitar and the singer. This song also adds a bit of philosophical depth to the album by asking the crucial question: "What is Love?"
Ingle is from Missouri and was kicked out of his parents' house when he dropped out of high school to pursue music.
Ingle's album was greatly influenced by his dad when his songs have very poignant and almost painful lyrics but the album also has a precious, cute theme.
The CD contains only four other songs, making for a relatively short album.
Never Shout Never's sound is best described as a better version of the Jonas Brothers.
Ingle's lyrics have the same basis as the Jonas Brothers, and his innocent glossy pop sound also channels the likes of boybands. However, Ingle's effort is better because it has that extra punch.
