Maestro Hobart Earle and the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at West Virginia University’s Creative Arts Center tonight. This is the Philharmonic’s first North American tour in more than 10 years. The first half of the program will include Franz Peter Schubert’s Suite of Waltzes compiled by Sergei Prokofieff and orchestrated by Levon Atovmyan, as well as Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B minor. The second half of the performance will feature works by Johann Strauss Jr. A mix of marches, polkas and waltzes will be included. Earle, an American, was the first and only foreigner to be awarded the title "Distinguished Artist of Ukraine." This is Earle’s 15th season as principle conductor and music director with the Odessa Philharmonic. He was also given the title of honorary professor of the Academy of Music in Odessa. In the U.S., Earle has previously led the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Theatre. Tickets for tonight’s performance are still available at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices. WVU student tickets are $18, and all other tickets are $22 to $30. — niy
