The Tomchin Planetarium and Observatory hosts a number of shows tonight. The planetarium will show "Impact Earth" beginning at 7 p.m. The hour long show places the spotlight on the dangers space objects like asteroids, comets, meteors and meteorites can pose to Earth. Astronaut Tom Jones narrates the show, educating the audience about the work done by asteroid hunters who search for objects throughout the solar system. The show also sheds light on how ground-penetrating radar can be used to find space objects that have remained intact during their trip through the Earth’s atmosphere. At the conclusion of "Impact Earth," the planetarium will host "Interstellar Boundary Explorer: Search for the Edge of the Solar System." According to the planetarium’s Web site, this show is "designed for visitors with an appreciation for the challenges of space science." This show chronicles the creation of NASA’s Interstellar Boundary Explorer and gives audiences a look into the craft’s mission to collect high speed atoms to create a map of our solar system’s boundary. The show will begin at 8 p.m. The planetarium is part of the West Virginia University Department of Physics, and admission is free.
