Tailpipes

Tailpipes, a new restaurant on High Street, has a ’50’s-style atmosphere and serves a variety of burgers and milkshakes.

Tailpipes, a new downtown restaurant recently opened on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and has remained busy since.

Tailpipes’s motto is "a modern day burger and shake shop," and although it hasn’t been open very long, the restaurant has been busy every day.

"If you would have come an hour later, I would have had to tell you to come back another time," said owner Bart Hibbs.

Hibbs said he expected a decent turnout, having researched other eateries in the area. He knew his restaurant was unique, but said his expectations have been "met and passed."

"The response has been great; we have been very fortunate, and people have been very kind," Hibbs said.

The menu, consisting of gourmet burgers and milkshakes, is not the only thing that sets Tailpipes apart from other Morgantown eateries. The restaurant’s interior looks like a scene from the ’50s.

The restaurant has classic black and white tile floors and road signs and car parts hanging on the walls.

However, Hibbs said the inside still needs work done.

"There is more decor to come and more paintings," Hibbs said.

The spaciousness of the diner is also appealing for customers who like to mingle, and the booth style seating that lines the walls allows large crowds.

Kristine Kraft, a junior finance major at West Virginia University and Michael Grahm, a WVU junior majoring in exercise physiology studies, were both excited about their first visit.

"I found out they have buffalo burgers, and I’m excited for that," Kraft said.

Grahm commented on the burger, saying "I like it; it’s lean and a better choice without having to go for turkey."

Both seemed eager to try out the different types of hamburgers and milkshakes.

Hibbs encourages everyone to give his new restaurant a try and to "keep coming back and bring your friends" because he believes everyone enjoys a good burger.
