Students at West Virginia University will scurry around campus in search of the locations of pictures as part of Mountaineer Week.
Tammy Ramsey, a junior nursing major, and Rebecca DiClemente, a junior communications major, started the scavenger hunt, presented by Coca-Cola in coordination with the Mountaineer Week Challenge, sponsored by MedExpress of Morgantown.
"I can truly say that the winner will be a toss-up – the pictures are quite challenging and diverse," DiClemente said.
Each group will be given pictures of inside the Mountainlair and downtown and three hours to find the area the picture was taken and write it down.
The group who makes it back first or with the most correct answers will receive a $250 Visa gift card for each team member from Coca-Cola.
"It's a good chance for them to get to see the different details of the campus," DiClemente said. "We've never even noticed some stuff when we took the pictures."
The scavenger hunt is one of the least known events throughout Mountaineer Week with one of the largest cash prizes, she said in an e-mail, and many students do not understand how the scavenger hunt works.
Students can choose groups of four people. Each group will have a $5 entry fee. New this year, individual students wanting to participate can contact Ramsey to match him or her up with a group. The fee for an individual person is $1.25.
The scavenger hunt will take place Monday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students must be present in the Mountainlair Vandalia Lounge by 2:30 p.m.
