Shopping from the comfort of your own home can get you superior holiday deals

Every year, I attempt to get my Christmas shopping done earlier and earlier.

It never works.

Despite having noble ambitions of starting my shopping before Halloween, I always keep putting it off.

Then, sometime around finals week, I begin to panic. Not because I probably just bombed an exam, but because I still haven’t got bought anything yet.

This year, however, the allure of Black Friday and deals too good to pass up helped me whip into shape.

Instead of lining up outside in the miserable, dark cold of the real world, I spent my evening on the couch browsing the Internet for the best deals.

Slickdeals.net

Users from all across the country are spending their day finding the best deals and posting them online for your use, and you probably didn’t even know it.

Slickdeals.net is a community Web site where users post links to online Web sites, coupons for in-store and online use and catalogues for upcoming sales.

This site is a must for catching those last-minute sales or upcoming deals you might not get in the Sunday newspaper catalogues.

There’s also a great forum of users updating deals they had seen in-store but haven’t seen online.

1saleaday.com

Though somewhat limited in what’s available for discount, 1saleaday.com offers a daily product that’s heavily discounted.

There are four categories – Wireless, Watch, Family and Jewelry.

The site has a countdown to how long you still have to make the purchase, and also lets you know if the product has already sold out.

Woot.com

Like 1saleaday, Woot offers a few different categories of a particular item on sale for one day, or until the product sells out.

The site offers original shirts featuring original artwork at $10 with shipping.

The site also has a kids section for toys and another feature linking to Yahoo, which offers another deal-searching engine.

But the best offers come from heavily discounted computers – though sometimes refurbished – that are snapped up pretty quickly.

Google Shopping

One of the search engine company’s most underused features is Shopping, formerly known as "Froogle."

The feature scours the Internet for the best price on a product you may enter. You can find products by price, by location and whether or not the store has your item in stock.

It’s a time-saver for those out shopping, too. While in Sam’s Club at Towne Center, I checked to see whether the price of "The Office: Season Five" was any better at Wal-Mart. At the time, it was, and I managed to get it cheaper.

GottaDeal.com

Like Slickdeals, this Web site offers a community of posters looking for the best prices.

The best part about all these sites – they’re free to use. With no extra burden on your wallet, your shopping experience can be easier and more affordable.

I wouldn’t wait any longer – you want to make sure any products you order online will be delivered by your holiday, especially during the mailing rush.
