Between five and seven shots were fired near West Virginia University's Summit Hall at 12:15 a.m. Sunday. The Morgantown Police Department has not apprehended any suspects.

Though no injuries were reported, one bullet entered the building through the fire escape door on the residence hall's third floor, said MPD Sergeant Bryon Hennessey.

This is the second University-reported crime in the area within a week; the first was a stabbing last Sunday morning on the intersection of Grant Avenue and Third Street. MPD is still looking for leads in the case.

"Be cautious of your surroundings," Hennessey said. "If you see anything suspicious, notify the police immediately."

The University is disappointed about the incident, said WVU Spokesman Dan Kim.

"We're working very closely with the University Police and Morgantown Police to ensure the safety of students and the community," Kim said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the MPD Detective Division at 304-284-7452.
