A West Virginia University student remains hospitalized in critical condition following a fight early Saturday morning.

The fight occurred at 3:10 a.m. in the Dairy Mart parking lot at 600 Willey St. Witnesses said five to seven males attacked three males.

One male was unconscious when police arrived. He was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and remains there in critical condition.

Morgantown Police say a video of the incident shows other individuals in the area at the time of the fight and are asking them to contact the department’s Detective Division at 304-284-7454.

WVU Student Affairs has offered counseling to the other victims of the fight as well as friends and family.

This is so sad. I pray for this man and his family. What has happened to this town? A few years ago a student was stabbed and died, and now this? Not to mention the numerous strong armed robberies, gunshots on Grant Ave., and sexual assaults. As a student living in Morgantown, I am greatly concerned. The law needs to make an example out of the people that did this. Also, why is this incident not receiving more attention. The university releases a brief statement, and that statement is printed by this newspaper and WV Metro news, and that is the extent of the media coverage. If this happened in any other state their would be a regional manhunt, followed by a media frenzy. I think it is sad that every incident that happens in this town is kept on the "hush-hush" to protect its image. I hope that these people are prosecuted to the fullest extent, and this man makes a full recovery. Pray for him and his family.

This fellow student of mine has been in my thoughts constantly since I heard this terrible news. I hope the people responsible for this are brought to justice and punished to the fullest extent of the law. I feel so much for the family and friends of this young man. No one deserves this. I myself and some of my friends have been jumped by multiple attackers this year. This is a growing problem here at school. When is this stupid, pointless violence going to end? These people who did this better have the guilt rot them out for the rest of their lives if they aren't brought to justice. My prayers are with him and his loved ones.

I am a double-graduate of WVU and teach high school where the injured student in question attended. I'm proud to be a Morgantown native and WVU graduate. It gives me pause, though, that the reported incident apparently was caused by some disagreement by the people involved about favorite sports teams. The outcome apparently is permanent brain injury or death, although the final outcome is still in question. At least that is the common report among students and teachers in Ashburn, VA, where that former student of ours, and current student of yours, was loved and respected by his family, friends, teachers and fellow students. A true tradgedy!
