Members of the West Virginia University community with even a mild interest in
the areas of athletics, entertainment and business should join a few titans of the sports industry for "The Business of Sports" discussion 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson Alumni Center.

The event is part of the Wells Fargo Distinguished Lecture Series, and is being co-sponsored by the College of Business and Economics and the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.

The discussion is free and open to the public.

The presenters will include:

Ken Kendrick, Managing General Partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks and a 1965 WVU graduate. Kendrick is also the founder of Datatel Inc., a major infrastructure technology partner for colleges and universities.

Kendrick spoke out against the hiring of Bill Stewart following the Fiesta Bowl in 2008, stating that "(Stewart) is so overmatched it’s not even funny."

Sam Huff, an NFL Hall of Famer and a West Virginia University alum.

A third round pick in the 1956 NFL Draft, Huff went on to become one of the most noteworthy players of all time.

His No. 75 is one of two WVU football numbers that have been retired.

Huff is currently a color commentator for the Redskins Radio Broadcast Network.

Oliver Luck, President and General Manager of the Houston Dynamics of Major League Soccer and a 1982 WVU graduate.

A former WVU bowl-winning quarterback and two-time Academic All-American, Luck was selected by the Houston Oilers in the second round of the 1982 National Football League Draft.

Luck played for five seasons for the Oilers. He is currently a member of the WVU Board of Governors.

Robert Nutting, born in Wheeling W. Va., and principal owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2007.

He is currently the President and CEO of Ogden Newspaper and Chairman of Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania.

The event will be an excellent opportunity to learn from four very successful individuals in the areas of sports, entertainment and business.

Despite a struggling economy, it seems as if the sports and entertainment industries always survive, if not thrive.

Attending the forum might open eyes to career pathways never thought possible.

The chance to hear from a handful of highly successful and prominent individuals of the sports world may be inspiration in and of itself.
