Personal attacks against players are unnecessary, childish

I am a diehard Mountaineer fan. I hate to lose. I understand how this state rallies around the football and basketball teams at this school.

In recent school history, we have had great success with the football team and a great men's and women's basketball program.

Coach Huggins coming back to Wes Virginia University has been amazing, and he has had great success with the team.

What coach Mike Carey has done with the women's basketball team is simply amazing, and it is disappointing they don't get the support they deserve.

We rally around this school and we celebrate every win and we hang on every loss.

Some people have been taking these losses too hard, and have crossed the line.

I know the Internet is now mainly a communications tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about everything, but the recent hateful posts on Facebook regarding the basketball team need to stop.

It is OK to talk about the game, but what I will not stand for is people personally attacking individual players regarding their individual performances and attacking them about things outside of the game of basketball, such as who they are dating or what they have been doing socially.

It is none of our business who the players date or what they do in their free time.

They are students just like us, and they love this state just as much as this state loves them, and I am sure it hurts them to hear people attacking them like this.

We need to share these great times with our teams because they are very successful and might be some of the greatest teams in school history.

Don't try to tear them down. Just grow up or shut up.
