A letter to the West Virginia University community from SGA

On behalf of the West Virginia University Student Government Association, especially the outgoing administration, we want to apologize for inappropriate jests and superlatives that were in bad taste at the SGA Changing of the Seats on Wednesday night.

What began as an attempt to be a reflective, humorous, positive recognition of the outgoing administration's achievements over the past year in Student Government ended as an embarrassment.

It was never the intention of Student Government to embarrass or offend.

It is clear that we crossed the line and for that we are extremely sorry.

In retrospect, some of the superlatives could have included: "Biggest Advocate for Club Sports," "Most likely to help every governor on their platform," or "Most likely to help students get home safely."

For clarification, these superlatives were created and selected by some members of the 2009-2010 members of the Student Government Association Board of Governors.

The University Board of Governors was not involved in any way.

SGA has much to be proud of and we have accomplished a lot together over the past year.

SGA will use this experience to go forward working with Student Affairs to have an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for the entire student body.
