West Virginia point guard Sarah Miles will return to her home state of Texas when the Mountaineers play their NCAA Tournament opening round game against Lamar in Austin Sunday.

At Monday night’s NCAA Tournament Selection Party for the West Virginia women’s basketball team, those affiliated with the team were hoping the Mountaineers would began play in either Pittsburgh or Norfolk, Va.

But when word came that West Virginia was heading to Texas, it was a dream come true for point guard Sarah Miles.

The trip from Miles’ hometown of San Antonio, which is also the host city of the women’s Final Four, is a little over 80 miles from Austin where the Mountaineers will play Lamar Sunday.

"I am so excited because this will be the first time my mom will get the chance to see me play live, and all my friends and family will get to see it as well," Miles said.

The Big East Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year may also have the chance to showcase her skills against one of the schools she turned down to play at WVU – Texas.

The Mountaineers have the possibility of playing against the Longhorns on their home floor in the second round.

"The University of Texas definitely recruited me while Jody Conradt was still there along with others like Baylor and Texas A&M Corpus Christi," Miles said. "The visit is what made me come here though. I just loved the place."

The 5-foot-7 guard has seemlessly made the transition from shooting guard to point guard this season and averaged 9.9 points per game this season while leading the Big East with six assists per game.

Miles struggled in the Big East Championship game when she finished just 1-of-15 from the floor. But fellow junior Liz Repella said her teammate will rebound from her tough performance.

"I definitely feel like she is going to have great tournament especially since we are going to be playing in Texas," Repella said.

For Miles and her teammates, they are hoping that this will not be their only stop in Texas during the tournament as they try to make a push toward the Final Four.

"It’s even more exciting to know we are going now and then we may have the opportunity to go back for the Final Four," Miles said. "It’s a pretty exciting moment for all of us."
