West Virginia guard Liz Repella's season has been inconsistent this year, but in the last few games, she has been able to step it up at times when her team needs her most.
On Saturday afternoon, she continued her strong play.
The Steubenville, Ohio, native registered her 14th career double-double en route to West Virginia's 75-59 defeat of Providence.
The No. 8 Mountaineers (21-3, 8-2 Big East) used a solid first half effort by Repella to put the Friars (13-10, 4-6 Big East) out of the game late in the first half.
Repella netted a total of 20 points in the first half and went on to finish the game with a season-high 25 points.
Repella was also able to pull down 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.
Along with Repella, center Asya Bussie also had a double-double as she chipped in 12 points and had 11 rebounds for her first career Big East double-double.
Guard Korinne Campbell was the only other Mountaineer to score in double-digits as she had 10 points in the contest.
The game got off to a slow start for WVU as they fell behind 6-0 in the first 1:30 to the Friars.
West Virginia finally got its game going with just under six minutes into the first half as it was able to tie the game at 13.
Later in the first half, the Mountaineers used a 13-2 run to mount a 34-22 lead against the Friars.
The run was capped by one of Repella's four three-pointers on the day.
Moments later, Repella again hit from beyond the arc, but this three-pointer added to her day full of milestones as she eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for her career.
The junior guard is the 27th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point club.
After another surge, WVU was able to take a 48-32 lead into halftime.
As it has all season long, the Mountaineers defense shined as it held the Friars without a point for almost five minutes in the second half and to just 40 percent (24-60) shooting over the course of the game.
This defensive effort helped WVU go on a 12-0 run and go up by 25 points, which was its biggest lead of the game.
Guard Chelsea Marandola led Providence with 16 points and five rebounds.
West Virginia does not return to the court until Feb. 14 when it hosts No. 16 Georgetown in a crucial Big East regular-season matchup.
