Mayne’s Good Time is a multi-genre event showcasing local musicians and artists. The goal of the show is to bring like-minded individuals together for a mid-week break to cut loose and relax. The artists are given a chance to hone their craft in a friendly, local environment surrounded by friends and peers of their community. The motto for the event is “By the Maynes, for the Maynes.”

Metzinger is a French artist who was also a major 20th-century theorist, writer, critic and poet. Along with Albert Gleizes, the two artists developed the theoretical foundations of Cubism. “Maison dans la Forest” means “House in the Forest” and was completed in 1921. Dr. Paul and Laura Mesaros gave the painting to the WVU Art Collection as a gift.

More than 600 high school choristers from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia flocked to the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre to perform music composed by Grammy Award winner Eric Whitacre. Whitacre traveled from the West Coast to conduct two of his original composed pieces: "Sleep" and "The Seal Lullaby."

At the Mountainlair this weekend, students will have the chance to experience a weekend in paradise as the theme for the University’s signature WVUp All Night program is “Getaway Weekend”. 

The festival has 12 events staggered throughout the day, and throughout the day there will be a fire for people to warm up around. There will also be hot chocolate, coffee and baked goods for sale during the day.

Fourteen faculty members of the WVU School of Art and Design have worked with printmakers at Artists Image Resource print shop, otherwise known as AIR, in Pittsburgh to create signature art projects. The original work has been showcased in the Mesaros Galleries since its debut Jan. 25. within the display titled “Conjunction.”

The event opened at noon and the venue quickly became packed as guests flooded in. This year, a total of 14 chili contestants and four baked-goods contestants entered. Ten of the chili contestants were individuals, and the other four were non-profit organizations hoping to win money for their cause.

 Two shows have been performed in the Mountainlair’s Gluck Theatre - Christopher Durang’s "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" and the infamous rock musical "The Rocky Horror Show" - both exceeded expectations, having to turn people away at the door for all three nights of performances.

With the winter season upon us, one of the only perks of living in the Appalachian Mountains are the beautiful ski resorts just a short drive away. Here are a few close options for any snowbirds looking to sport in a breath-taking setting.

Starting in the Monongahela Arts Center on High Street, students enrolled within the Reed College of Media’s Public Relations 493 event planning class greeted guests bundled in their coats and scarves who were eager to commence their evening of dining on various downtown grubs. After signing in, individuals participating in the Culinary Crawl were able to sample delicacies from restaurants like Table 9, Morgantown Brewing Company and Sargasso.

One of the 10 famous 1940s paintings commissioned by the Bituminous Coal Institute is currently held at the Art Museum of West Virginia University. "To Make Dream Homes Come True," can be viewed in the museum’s opening exhibition, and will be the topic of conversation in art historian Dr. Eric Schruers’ presentation, "Rockwell Kent’s Lost Bituminous Coal Series Rediscovered." The "Art Up Close!" event begins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Museum Education Center Grand Hall.

Light Up Night was derived from two historical events that occurred in Pittsburgh, the notable "Preview of Christmas" tradition and the celebration of the opening of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball season in 1959. On April 9, 1959, building lights were left on in Downtown Pittsburgh until midnight to encourage locals to enter department stores to shop and attend city theater performances.
