World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on Sept. 10 every year. In this video, Active Minds WVU President Delaney Geib and Vice President Allison Earley discuss the importance of suicide prevention on campus. According to a survey conducted by Active Minds in April, 80% of college students reported that the pandemic had negatively affected their mental health. People between the ages of 15 and 29 are most at risk, according to Geib. In June, 40% of adults reported struggling with health or substance abuse, and of that group 11% considered suicide, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Suicide rates are expected to rise as the pandemic continues.
