In this video, local farmer Julie Mallow discusses the challenges she faced during the pandemic. Mallow owns and operates the Vegetable Garden and Davis Brothers Inc, located in Masontown, W.Va. Among other farmers in the state, she received financial relief from a local Farm Service Agency office, in association with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Many local farmers use the Morgantown Farmer’s Market as a method to sell their products straight to community members. Last year’s Market Director Ayron Walker said vegetable producers saw an increase in sales during the pandemic compared to other vendors. Overall, she said the market saw a 15 to 20% decrease in sales, a figure they anticipated to be much higher.
