PRT collision

Two PRT cars collided between the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street stations after one PRT car bumped into another on the westbound track Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016.

WVU is currently investigating a PRT collision between the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street stations after one PRT car bumped into another on the westbound track Wednesday afternoon.

In an e-mail sent to students Wednesday evening, the University called the collision “minor” and stated six passengers were on board. Two were treated for minor injuries.

The Walnut station was shut down for the duration of the evening and service was replaced by buses. According to the WVU Transportation and Parking twitter Thursday morning, the Walnut station was closed, and an update at 3:48 p.m. on Thursday stated the station would remain closed Friday, Dec. 2.

The rest of the PRT system has continued to operate on a normal schedule.

“Each section of the PRT system between stations operates on a closed loop circuit,” said Associate Vice President for Facilities and Services Randy Hudak in the e-mail. “As a result, we can isolate the section between the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street stations and continue operations for the rest of the PRT system."
