A bell ringing ceremony was held to remember Mountaineers Ryan Diviney and Rylee Burnette at Olgebay Plaza on Friday.
Diviney died in August, 10 years after his assault near WVU’s campus, and Burnette died in October.
Diviney was a pre-law sophomore student when he was assaulted outside a Dairy Mart convenience store in Morgantown, where he suffered a fractured skull, a broken jaw and was bleeding from the brain.
His assailants, Austin Vantrease and Jonathon May, were criminally convicted in West Virginia State Court in 2010.
At the ceremony, Ryan’s father, Ken Diviney, was given a WVU certificate issued in memory of Ryan Diviney that said he was a student in good academic standing and who participated in the life of the University.
Rylee Burnette’s mother, Deanna Burnette, was given a WVU certificate as well honoring her daughter.
