Morgantown's High Street

High Street on a sunny Sunday morning.

For students and townies alike, creating a pedestrian zone in Morgantown’s High Street would create a safer, more fun environment that is more encouraging of commerce and community engagement.

While creating an area where only pedestrians can walk would create difficulties, such as having to reroute traffic and find additional parking spaces, a city focused on implementing such a zone would reap benefits.

Just look at Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia, which was created to address declining business and has created many economic and community benefits. The area is considered the  “cultural, economic and social heart” of the city, according to charlottesville.org.
