Al Pogue, West Virginia’s outside linebackers coach from this past season, is no longer a Mountaineer.
Reported early Friday morning by Jay G. Tate of Rivals and confirmed by the Daily Athenaeum through a source, Pogue has opted to take a position on the defensive staff at Auburn University.
An Alabama native, Pogue had previously served in a variety of roles with the Tigers from 2011-13. Prior to his previous stint at Auburn, Pogue had worked as a high school coach throughout the state for parts of 12 seasons.
Pogue departed Auburn prior to the 2014 season, taking a job on the staff at Troy University. He remained there until coming to Morgantown prior to last season.
His stint at WVU was the only time in which Pogue had coached outside of the state of Alabama.
Pogue is the third assistant coach that West Virginia has lost this offseason, following former wide receivers coach Xavier Dye and former inside linebackers/special teams coach Blake Seiler.
