Shane Buckley has been promoted to be head coach of West Virginia University's Division 1 club hockey team, team general manager Todd Gookin announced Thursday.

Buckley will replace Steve Cagle in the role.

Buckley will be in his second season with the West Virginia hockey program after serving as an assistant coach with both the D1 and D2 teams during the 2018-19 season.

Prior to coming to WVU, Buckley coached at two high schools in Wisconsin. He also attended college in the state, playing four years of hockey and baseball at Northland College.
