The West Virginia cross country team found themselves finishing in third place at the Lehigh Invitational on Friday night.

With the temperature not on the runners’ side, sophomore Marianne Abdalah and senior Olivia Hill carried their WVU teammates at the Lehigh Invitational. Abdalah finished with a time of 22:18.23, placing her fourth, while her Hill finished in second with a time of 21:57.36.

Head coach Sean Cleary was impressed with how his group fared in the elements.

"Racing in 80-plus temperatures provided an interesting racing environment,” Cleary said. “I am very pleased with the five that we lined up today. We had a fifth-year senior, a sophomore and three redshirt freshmen running their first race at WVU.”

Malina Mitchell (11th place), Peyton Kukura (25th place) and Amber Dombrowski (31st place) made their WVU debuts in the event.

Lehigh, the host, won the invitational with 57 points. La Salle finished at a close second with 58 points. Temple, Rutgers, Moravian and NJIT were the other participants Friday night.

The Mountaineers will have the week off, returning to action Sept. 13. WVU will visit Penn State for the Spiked Shoe Invitational in University Park, Pennsylvania.
