On opening day, the West Virginia University golf team’s first round of play was suspended at the VCU Invitational due to inclement weather on Monday in Richmond, Virginia.

Two hours into the first round of action, the weather forced golfers back into the clubhouse for the remainder of the day. Players will now tee off in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday and will finish the first 18 holes before immediately starting the second round. The event has been shortened from 54 holes to 36.

WVU, unofficially, was in second place at three-under par through five holes when play was called. Sophomore Matthew Sharpstene is atop the individual leaderboard after shooting three under through the first five holes.
