The West Virginia gymnastics team cmpeted at home on Sunday for the first time on the season and defeated both New Hampshire and Temple with a total score of 196.025 points.

The West Virginia gymnastics team will travel to Pittsburgh to face Pitt and Ball State in a tri-meet this Friday, then return home to face top-ranked Oklahoma on Sunday. 

The West Virginia gymnastics team picked up a pair of wins in its home opener on Sunday as they beat the George Washington Colonials and the Kent State Golden Flashes in a tri-meet.

The Mountaineer Gymnastics team most recently defeated two rivals in one meet, taking down Pitt and Maryland last Sunday and earning a new season high score of 196.255.

The West Virginia gymnastics team will be traveling to Ames, Iowa, this Friday to face Iowa State, Yale and Northern Illinois at a quad meet hosted by the Cyclones.

The West Virginia gymnastics team is coming off a second place finish in a home tri-meet and heading to Davis, California on Friday to face UC-Davis and Illinois-Chicago.  

The West Virginia gymnastics team has started the season with an overall high score of 195.875 and most recently finished in second place with an overall score of 194.5 in their very first tri-meet hosted at the Coliseum on Sunday.

Junior gymnastics standout Robyn Bernard was named WVU Student Athlete of the Week after hitting two career best performances and a season high routine this weekend while the No. 25 Mountaineers hosted and topped No. 7 Denver, Temple and Towson at home.

WVU Gymnastics will move forward after a tough performance against Pittsburgh to face what could be called it’s biggest challenge of the season when No. 1 Oklahoma visits Morgantown on Saturday evening.

While qualifying for the regional championships is a great accomplishment in its own right, this team felt it was bound for bigger things. Each gymnast was improving by the week, and the team was riding a huge wave of momentum heading into postseason play.

In order to qualify for the National Championships, you must place in either the top two spots where you will be granted an automatic bid straight into competition or you must finish third or fourth where you will compete in a semifinal match for the right to go to the championships.

The Mountaineers finished the regular season with a record of 10-6 after winning eight straight games and turning around their season. The team has put themselves in a good position heading into postseason play next weekend at the Big 12 Championship in Frisco, Texas.

The Mountaineers are coming off one of their most prolific performances of the season, recording a team score of 196.8 in a tri-team meet with Ohio State and Bowling Green. The 196.8 score is the eighth highest score in program history.

The Mountaineers are coming into this match following a solid performance in the first three events against the No. 4 Alabama gymnastics team. However, a disappointing finish on the balance beam led to a heartbreaking loss of 197.375-195.25 to the Crimson Tide.

On Friday, the Mountaineers traveled west to Ames, Iowa, to compete against the Iowa State Cyclones in a neck-and-neck meet. Even with WVU getting some of the highest scores that it has gotten all season, Iowa State still managed to finish ahead.

The most recent meet for WVU was against William and Mary on Jan. 24. With each gymnast who preformed on floor earning a score of at least 9.775 or above, the Mountaineers were able to earn their season-best score on floor with a score of 49.3.

WVU accomplished the win by earning the final score of 195.800, compared to New Hampshire’s 195.225. The victory gave the Mountaineers a push in the national rankings, moving them up 11 spots, where they are currently nationally ranked at No. 26.

West Virginia’s schedule features five home meets, interspersed with frequent travel and contests with all three Big 12 opponents, before the Big 12 Championships and NCAA National Championships later in the spring.
