The West Virginia cross country team finished fifth today at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with three top 25 finishers and 122 points.
Finishing top 25 for the Mountaineers, and thus winning All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in the process, were redshirt junior Hayley Jackson (20:38.1, 12th), redshirt senior Candace Archer (20:38.7, 14th), and freshman Ceili McCabe (20:47, 25th).
The rest of the squad’s scorers finished top-50 with redshirt freshman Katherine Dowie (21:14.5, 40th), and sophomore Charlotte Wood (21:18.3, 43rd).
Finishing behind Penn State (73), Villanova (77), Georgetown (91) and Princeton (93), the Mountaineers missed out on an automatic NCAA Tournament berth but have three runners with a chance at individual qualification in Jackson, Archer, and McCabe. Individual bids are reserved for the top four finishers for teams that did not qualify for the tournament.
The team will learn their NCAA fate on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Mountaineers will hope to be one of 13 at-large team bids for the NCAA Tournament, while two individual runners will earn at-large bids.
