The West Virginia men’s soccer team picked up their fifth win of the season Tuesday night, beating Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, by a 4-1 final score.

The game was WVU’s second win this season by more than two goals.

West Virginia found the back of the net early in the first half with a goal in the 17th minute from senior midfielder Andres Muriel Albino off of a penalty kick, but that was all for the first half.

Early in the second half, Ohio State (5-2-0) was able to tie the game up with a 49th minute goal from Mitch Bergman. The tie did not last long as, less than three minutes later, the Buckeyes scored an own goal, giving the Mountaineers a 2-1 lead.

Muriel Albino put another one through for his fifth goal of the season in the 57th minute. The scoring was finally capped off with a goal from freshman Luke McCormick in the 62nd minute.

In the game, West Virginia out shot Ohio State 12-8 including five shots on goal compared to the Buckeyes’ two.

West Virginia (5-2-1) has three games to play before Mid-American Conference play kicks off.

The Mountaineers have a short turn around and will look to keep the offense rolling when they host Penn on Saturday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
