On a Saturday afternoon, the West Virginia University men's basketball team returned to their regular ways, falling to Oklahoma 92-80.
The Mountaineers (11-18, 3-13 Big 12) started out on top behind a Jordan McCabe three-pointer. WVU got out to as much as a 17-9 lead in the first half, but Oklahoma went on a 33-11 run over the next 14 minutes to take a 42-28 lead at the half.
The entire second half was basically garbage time as WVU could not recover.
Despite the poor result, McCabe continued his hot play with 18 points, most of it coming in the second half.
Jermaine Haley led the Mountaineers with 23 points.
Aaron Calixte and Jamal Bieniemy led the Sooners (18-11, 6-10) with 22 points each.
The Mountaineers still have at least three games remaining, hosting Iowa State before heading out to Stillwater to play follow conference cellar dweller Oklahoma State. WVU will either be the ninth or 10th seed in the Big 12 Tournament and will play either the seventh or eighth seed on March 13 in Kansas City.
West Virginia will return to Morgantown for one final home game, hosting Iowa State on Wednesday. The Mountaineers fell to the Cyclones in Ames 93-68 on Jan. 30.
