The West Virginia men’s soccer team fought hard Saturday night, but after 110 minutes of play it could not get the victory.

The Mountaineers (6-7-2, 0-3-1) traveled to Edwardsville, Illinois searching for their first victory in over a month, but they tied 0-0 with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (8-4-3, 2-1-1). Despite the draw, WVU held the advantage in shots with 17 total compared to SIU’s 10.

Both teams were tied at the end of regulation to force overtime. After an additional 20 minutes of play, neither team could secure the victory.

Going into Saturday’s match, West Virginia had lost five straight with its most recent victory coming on Sept. 28 against Pennsylvania. SIU Edwardsville had recently lost to conference-leading Akron, 3-0 on Oct. 25.

West Virginia will now look ahead to its regular season finale against Akron on Nov. 7 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be available to stream on MountaineerTV.
