The West Virginia club hockey team completed the weekend sweep after defeating St. Bonaventure, 9-4, on Sunday.
It would not take the Mountaineers long at all as they would score early in the first, with Sean Van Damme scoring for WVU making it 1-0. St. Bonaventure would score later in the first while on the power play to make it 1-1.
But WVU would answer late in the first with a goal by Kyle Dolly making it 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
WVU scored a total of three times in the second period, while St. Bonaventure would only score once. Sebastian Thomas scored twice in the period and Frankie Gerbasi added a goal to make it 5-2 WVU.
WVU goalie Ryan Wickiser only allowed one goal on 11 shots in the second and would only allow four goals by the end of the game on 30 shots on goal. St. Bonaventure pulled its goalie in the second after giving up three goals on five shots.
The Mountaineers scored four times in the third period and allowed two goals..
WVU’s offensive output helped the team score a total of 17 goals over the weekend, which is a promising sign for WVU’s offense this season.
West Virginia returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday against Penn State.
