The West Virginia volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision against the Iowa State Cyclones on Wednesday night.
In the first set, WVU (11-13, 2-9 Big 12) held a 13-9 lead before Iowa State (15-8, 6-5) came back and tied it at 13. The Mountaineers responded and took a 17-14 lead but, again, couldn’t hold on. The Cyclones took the first set by a close score of 25-22.
The second set would stay just as close. Late in the set, WVU trailed, 23-17, before making a run and cutting the lead to one at 24-23. Iowa State got the final point to end the set.
The Cyclones got off to a hot start in the third, scoring the first four. The Mountaineers never responded and fell, 25-15, to end the match.
Sophomore Kristina Jordan led the Mountaineer offense with eight kills, followed by senior Katelyn Evans with seven.
On defense, sophomore Keatan Broughton paced the team with eight digs. Sophomore Lacey Zerwas contributed with six.
WVU will have a week off before playing back-to-back home games, beginning with a Wednesday night matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs at 6 p.m.
